Carpe Diem

"Carpe diem" is a Latin phrase that literally translates to "seize the day" or "pluck the day." It's a call to action, encouraging people to make the most of the present moment and not take life for granted.

The phrase originates from the Roman poet Horace's work Odes, published in 23 BC. It appears in Ode 11, where Horace addresses a woman named Leuconoe and advises her not to dwell on the future or the past, but to focus on enjoying the present day.

While the most common translation is "seize the day," it's important to note that the original Latin uses the verb "carpe," which carries a connotation of plucking or harvesting. This suggests a more mindful approach to enjoying the present moment, and appreciating the good things in life, rather than a reckless pursuit of immediate pleasure.
